On behalf of RE-CONNECT Chicago, thank you for supporting Foster Progress at our Highline Event on April 26th, 2022. With your generous giving, the event along with our Facebook fundraisers, raised $7,000 NET! With this sizeable donation we are able to further our mission and help Foster Progress RE-ENERGIZE OUR YOUTH by helping to fund:
Scholarship Fund: Most foster youth go into their freshman year of college without the basics. These funds help the students with tuition, books, supplies for their dorm, clothes for school, laptops for class, and/or anything else they need to be successful in college.
College Visit Tours: Most foster youth don’t have the recourses or support to visit colleges and go on college tours. They provide bus tours of the state colleges, along with the transportation to and from, hotel stay, food and even a t-shirt from the campus gift shop.
Gap Year Program: Most foster youth have been hanging on by a tread and may need a year to figure out what is next. They provide guidance and experiences over a year post highshool graduation to expose the youth to opportunities, different careers, and increase the quality of their mental health in order to help them heal from past trauma to be ready for a more successful adulthood.
Nationally, only about 3% of foster youth earn a degree, while 31% experience homelessness, 50% become unemployed, and 57% are incarcerated before their 26th birthday.
Some people make choices that change lives. Thank you for being one of them!
